History

Redfearns J.F.C was established in 1996, in response to the community at large for out of school football activities for the young people of Barnsley.

From the outset it was realised that a professional and robust organisation was required that fully reflected the status of the supporting business and sponsor Redfearns Glass.

Redfearns are glass manufacturers based in the Monk Bretton area of Barnsley. They provide the free use of the Sports Ground and changing facilities.

This comprises of:-

1 x full size pitch
1 x pitch
1 x small sided pitch

In addition the club has also secured the playing fields of Milefield School Grimethorpe. This is a security fenced safe environment and comprises of:-

1 x full size pitch
1 x size pitch
1 x small sided pitch

For the use of these facilities the club pays rent to the school. In addition ABC funding was obtained to finance the manufacture of the goal posts and equipment.

ORGANISATIONAL ACTIVITY.
There are 10 boys teams ranging from under 7`s to under 16`s. Therefore, there are upwards of 250 young people connected to the club.

They participate in county wide league and cup competitions under the auspice of the Sheffield & District Junior League claimed to be the strongest junior league in Europe.

On any given weekend the Club has responsibility for 13 fixtures.

All those involved with the clubs coaching activities are CRB checked in accordance with the FA child protection literature.

TRAINING
During the season the Club provides weekly training sessions for all its teams. This includes floodlit winter training on an astra turf.

Out of season the club continues with fitness regimes, skills development, team working and tournament participation.

Coaches are at least FA level 1 qualified and enjoy the benefit of a full range of equipment and additional coaching materials – Books & videos to assist with planning varied coaching sessions.

FUNDING
As previously mentioned the facilities are provided by Redfearns free of charge and therefore gives the club an amount of match funding in kind for some co-ordinated project activities.

The Club management committee coordinates the pursuit of funding opportunities. However the club revolves around 100% volunteer activity. (This also provides a base for "in kind" match funding).

CONTRIBUTIONS
Each young person pays a weekly contribution during the season of £3.00. Out of season activities are free of charge.

In addition fund raising activities such as Raffles, Race nights and a Gala form the basis of necessary additional and regular funds coming into the club.

Added to this are the links with the local community. The Club committee together with each individual Team Manager is encouraged to pursue sponsorship each age group has separate sponsors.
